The mangni marks the formal beginning of the wedding journey: families coming together, rings exchanged, and often the first joint celebration before the nikah and walima that follow, sometimes months later. A mangni is usually smaller and more intimate than the walima, which changes how we shoot it: more focus on close family interaction, the ring exchange itself, and portraits of the couple together, often for the first time as a photographed pair, rather than the large-scale event choreography a reception calls for.
Making the Most of a Smaller Celebration
Because mangni functions tend to have fewer guests, we spend more time on portraits: of the couple together, of each family, and of both families combined, often the very first formal photographs the two families have taken as one extended family. These images are frequently used later for save-the-dates, invitations for the nikah and walima, or simply kept as the earliest chapter of the wedding story.
We also make sure the ring exchange itself, brief as it usually is, is captured clearly and from a flattering angle, along with the small rituals some families include: sweets exchanged between families, a formal blessing from elders, or gifts presented to the couple.
